Warm weather and long days characterise the classic Queenstown summer. Sitting at 45° south latitude, Queenstown has temperate summer temperatures with midsummer daylight hours totalling near 17.
Summertime is the perfect season to enjoy one of the five local golf courses - all within a 20 minute drive of the town centre. The feature of local courses is The Hills Golf Club, a spectacular and private members only course situated on 101ha (250 acres) of rural countryside near Arrowtown. A championship course, The Hills is the home of the New Zealand Open, which showcases 158 New Zealand and international players and draws a worldwide audience over the course of three days.
Also not to be missed is Millbrook Resort & Country Club - internationally recognized as one of the best resort courses in New Zealand. As well as Jacks Point, which officially hosts world renowned New Zealand caddy Steve Williams for a yearly charity event. Beyond professional golf, Queenstown annually hosts a one day international test cricket and rugby 7’s match.
While professional sports are fun to watch, many prefer to get involved in activities themselves. A perfect opportunity to do so is with the SummerDaze program. Involving all the local communities, the program offers daily fit and fun activities for the whole family. Events include: a junior triathlon, concerts, rodeo and twilight family cinema.
With the long days and warm evenings, summer is a great chance to dine al fresco at some of the internationally acclaimed restaurants and wineries in the region. Local favourites for outdoor dining are The Winehouse & Kitchen, Amisfield Winery Bistro, and the Jacks Point Clubhouse.
