Autumn foliage is on display as nature stages a spectacular show throughout the months of autumn. Mild weather coupled with the brilliant transformation of the trees allows for further enjoyment of the outdoor alpine setting and gives way to abundant harvest celebrations.
The festivities begin with the annual Gibbston Valley Harvest festival - a chance to celebrate the grape harvest and recent prize-winning vintages of local wine. The Gibbston Valley, specialising in the pinto noir variety, has a half dozen wineries and collectively they’ve won hundreds of awards both nationally and internationally.
The focal point of the season is the Arrowtown Autumn Festival. Entrenched in the history of the gold mining era, the quaint village of Arrowtown - located 20 km from Queenstown - hosts the annual festival in celebration of the times gone by and the vibrant community still there today. However, no excuse is needed to explore such a charming village. From the historical importance of the town, shared through the local district museum to the internationally praised restaurants and boutique theatre - there is plenty to enjoy.
